Just start...

On 3rd of October you will find me in London to run my first ever marathon.  I never expected to write that sentence but since accepting my place in the run up to my 36th birthday, the marathon has become my focus. I am running more, reading about running, trying out new gear and talking about running to everyone who will listen. This blog is the next step for me to share with you my experiences in training and fundraising for the big event!

For those of you who don't know me, I am a teacher, wife, mummy of two living in Germany but originally from Leeds, England.  I've been living in Germany for almost eleven years and I teach languages and humanities in secondary school in Bremen.

I started running on the 1st January 2019 as a new years resolution and could barely run one kilometer without walking.  I built up to a local 10k in May 2019 which I ran with a team of colleagues from my school in 1h04.  Following that I ran a 15k relay with a friend in August and completed a half-marathon as one of my bucket list goals in October 2019 in 2h20.

After that I took a bit of a break from running over winter and got back into in properly when we went into lockdown in March 2020.  I have become a fan of online challenges since all of the big runs have been cancelled.  I completed the Inca trail in two weeks in May and achieved a PB for 5k and 10k.  Then I was struck by a foot injury which put me out of action for a while.

Things picked up again over the winter and I began again in January with the St Francis Way challenge which has helped to get me motivated with marathon training as most of the marathon plans are 12 weeks which means I would start them in July.  That's where I am right now.  Aiming to finish this challenge by the end of June and then crack on with my Marathon training plan.

I will be back to share more soon about my fundraising, training, equipment and general musings on running so if you are interested - stay tuned!

I am running for Livability UK and you can sponsor me here.  Thank you!
