Nachtlauf Bremen

When I started running in 2019, the first organised event I took part in was the night run in Bremen.  I signed up with five colleagues as a work team to run the 10k.  It was to be my first 10k and I was very nervous, the furthest I had run in the four months leading up to it was 7.5k.

On the night, the atmosphere was fantastic.  I was the slowest in the team but it didn't matter.  I finished with a good time and I enjoyed being part of a team for the first time.  It helped me build up my distances for the local relay and half-marathon races later that year.

Last year, we planned to run again as a school team with even more colleagues but were scuppered by Corona.  I ran my own 10k personal best in lockdown instead.  For a long time, we discussed whether the race would take place this year and whether we would run as a team.  As it turns out, they have adjusted the run this year so that participants can take part over the space of a week so that there will be no crowds.

Today, I signed up with a colleague to run the night run "socially distanced version" this week.  Maybe some of the others will join us.  The atmosphere will not be the same and 10k no longer sounds a lot but I am so excited to be doing a planned run as part of a team again.  It gives me hope that organised events are beginning again and it is a great stepping stone on my marathon training plan - less than four months to go now!

I am running the London Marathon in October for Livability UK and you can sponsor me here.  Thank you!
